The partnership of The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea and The United Church of Canada is deeply valued. Our churches treasure the opportunity to embody that partnership in lived relationships. In the past those relationships have been primarily expressed in the appointment of mission personnel to serve in Korea. As times have changed, and in the context of the new Mutual Recognition of Ministry Agreement, our churches are exploring new ways of living out partnership, based on people to people as well as institutional connections. Regional connections are one way this can happen. Exchange visits help build understanding and connection as we share how we work in God's mission for peace and justice in our own contexts, and lay the foundation for ongoing partnership between the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea and The United Church of Canada expressed in many different ways locally, regionally and nationally. When: Participants from Toronto Conference will travel to Korea October 13 – 21, 2016. Participants from Seoul Presbytery will travel to Canada during the final week of May 2017 to be present during the Annual Meeting. Participants: There will be 17 participants from across Toronto Conference including at least three from each presbytery, some of whom we hope will be young adults (18 – 30 years of age). Participants must demonstrate a willingness to be culturally sensitive and commit to being part of the welcoming team when the Korean delegation visits Toronto in late May 2017. It is a requirement that all participants are present for all pre and post exchange events and are able to assist in welcoming the delegates from Seoul Presbytery when they visit Toronto Conference at the end of May, 2017. Selection Process: Presbyteries are invited to name a number of people who could receive application forms directly, along with a general call for applications. Participants will be selected by a central planning team made up of the President Elect and Executive Secretary of Toronto Conference and other members as needed. Prior to selection of participants, the planning team will consult with the Chairs and Secretaries of the four presbyteries. Cost: The cost of the exchange will be covered by the presbyteries, but participants will be responsible for their travel/health insurance, required inoculations and personal spending money. |
