of Jesus Cross
(April 6-11), 2020
The Church traditionally reads and
meditates on the Bible during Jesus' Holy Week of the cross; worships on Holy
Thursday and Good Friday, and celebrates The Resurrection Day. This year, we
will not be worshipping at church, though we will still be together in heart
and mind, so I invite you to read the scripture readings and meditate. It is a
time of prayer and a time to recognize how much we are loved by God, and that
our loving God is inviting us to be agents of Resurrection in the world.
Remember we are an Easter people.
Monday: John 12:1-11
Today, we think about Judas, who
criticized Mary's devotion to Jesus throughout the gospels, and questioned why
she would spend so much on the ointment with which she anointed Jesus’
feet.
Tuesday: John 12:20-36
Read the message of the Messianic
lesson.
Wednesday: John 13:21-35
Today we focus on why Judas betrayed
Jesus.
As we meditate together, we will
discover the negative elements of faith that may be active in our lives
today.
Holy Thursday: See the bulletin for the Holy
Thursday service
On this day, we will remember the Last
Supper of Jesus and the washing of his friend’s feet, we learn why we should
believe in the image of Jesus Christ’s coming as a liberator, and how we should
act according to that image. In particular, we learn how we can be together on
Christ’s journey to the cross, and what the meaning of Christ's service means.
Good Friday: See the bulletin for the
Good Friday service
Good Friday is the center of the Holy
week, and it's the climax. What is truth?" The power of Jesus'
cross is reaching all the world. In other words, it is good to think about what
the crucifixion of Jesus Christ means in all religions, nations, and cultures
St. Saturday: Job 14:1-14
It is a day of darkness and death that
seems to be hopeless, but this is the day when the dawn is nearest, and
therefore darkness gives hope to the morning of resurrection, to discover the
truth that darkness can never beat the light.
